Finally! Mountain riding again.
7/11/2009Cunningham Park in Queens. AWESOME. http://www.nycmtb.com/?page_id=310
For the data junkies, here is the Garmin maps: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/18240973
I’ve been threatening for a while to actually grow a pair and take my MTB on the subway. This morning I did just that and it was well worth it. A short 2 mile ride to the F train, a 30 min commute, and then a 3 mile neighborhood ride to the trailhead. Cunningham Park has miles of blacks and blues (most difficult/med difficult) to ride on. There isn’t much climbing, but the dirt jumping, switch backs, huge north shore type bridges and technicals kept me pretty busy! There was also a blue “fast” loop that I was able to hammer and keep up pretty good speed.
I was also able to be social with some fellow riders, which I have to mention all had serious downhill type bikes. None of them were on the trails per say, but were hanging out at the technical tracks and taking turns doing the course. Thus the massive suspensions… Even saw a guy with a Brooklyn Machine Works SR6… insane!
The trail head sign.
The very beginning of the trail. This dose NOT do the trail system justice. Its double track for about 300 ft then you have the choice of green/blue/black single track to cut off on. I wasn’t about to stop, take out my phone and snap a shot for the blog… not this time at least
I was having to much fun!! It’s inevitable that I’m going to invest in a ContourHD helmet mounted camera sooner than later… That way all you guys can see what I see on the trail, and maybe more interestingly, in Manhattan!
Saturday mornings for the rest of the year are now booked solid. -Marcus
